Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the patch system work?

Every Hahaha garment comes with a hook-and-loop patch zone built into the fabric. Your child simply presses a patch onto the zone, and it stays put. When they want to switch it up, they peel it off and attach a different one. No sewing, no ironing, no tools needed.

Kids as young as 3 can do it themselves, which is kind of the point. One hoodie can look completely different on Monday than it did on Friday. Same jacket, new personality.

2. Do patches come off in the wash?

Always remove patches before washing — that's true for any hook-and-loop garment. The patch closure on the garment itself is engineered for thousands of cycles and holds firm through machine wash cold, gentle detergent, low tumble dry. The patches themselves are spot-clean or hand-wash as needed. If you leave patches on through a wash, they may stick more aggressively to the loop side and fray the embroidery faster, but the garment closure won't degrade.

3. How many patches fit on each garment?

Every Hahaha garment has one primary patch zone sized for our standard 4" patches. You can layer smaller patches or stack shapes from collection packs, but think of it as one featured patch at a time. The fun isn't fitting 10 patches on a hoodie — it's how often your kid swaps them out as their mood changes.

4. What's the difference between "organic cotton" and GOTS-certified organic cotton?

This is the question we wish more parents would ask.

"Organic cotton" only describes how the cotton was grown. It says nothing about what happened after harvest. That same organic cotton can still be bleached with chlorine, dyed with heavy metals, and treated with formaldehyde-based finishes. None of that has to be disclosed.

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification checks the entire supply chain, from farm to finished garment. No toxic dyes. No formaldehyde. No heavy metals. Every facility is audited. Every step is verified.

Our GOTS Transaction Certificate number is GOTS-CUC-03-TC-1033552. You can verify it yourself on the GOTS public database. That's 38,080 kg of certified organic cotton, fully traceable.

As toxicologist Dr. Yvonne Burkart puts it: "Organic cotton only describes how the cotton was grown, not what happened after harvest."

5. What is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and why does it matter?

OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is an independent testing certification that screens fabrics for over 350 harmful substances, including chemicals that aren't even regulated yet.

Here's why it matters for kids specifically: a child's skin is about 30% thinner than an adult's. That means it's more permeable and more absorbent. Chemicals on clothing don't just sit there. They can transfer to the skin and, in some cases, into the bloodstream. And because children's livers and kidneys are still developing, their bodies don't detoxify as efficiently as ours do.

OEKO-TEX tests for what's actually in the finished fabric, not just what's supposed to be there on paper.

6. Are the patches safe for young children?

Yes. Our patches are designed for kids ages 3 and up.

The patches are securely constructed with no small parts that could detach. The hook-and-loop backing is soft on the loop side (the part that touches the garment) and the patches themselves are made to the same safety standards as our garments.

That said, as with any children's product, we recommend adult supervision for the youngest kids during patch play.

7. What sizes do you offer and how do they run?

We offer five sizes: 3-4Y, 5-6Y, 7-8Y, 9-10Y, and 11-12Y.

For reference, these translate roughly to standard US sizing:

  • 3-4Y = 4T
  • 5-6Y = 5/6T
  • 7-8Y = Youth Small (YS)
  • 9-10Y = Youth Medium (YM)
  • 11-12Y = Youth Large (YL)

Our garments have a relaxed, streetwear-inspired fit. They're designed for movement, play, and layering. If your child is between sizes, we generally recommend sizing up for room to grow.

Check our size guide for detailed measurements. If you're still unsure, reach out to us. We'd rather help you get the right size the first time.

8. How do I wash and care for Hahaha garments?

Remove the patches before washing.

Machine wash cold with like colors. Use a gentle, fragrance-free detergent. We recommend skipping fabric softeners and dryer sheets entirely. They coat fabrics with synthetic chemicals that defeat the purpose of choosing clean materials in the first place.

Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Our garments are pre-washed during production, so shrinkage is minimal.

For patches, spot clean or hand wash as needed.

One thing that surprised us: because GOTS-certified cotton hasn't been chemically treated for "wrinkle resistance," it may wrinkle more than conventional kids' clothes. That's actually a good sign. It means there's no formaldehyde finish on the fabric.

9. Where are your products made?

Every Hahaha garment is 100% made in Los Angeles, California. We work with Euphoric Colors, a local manufacturer, and use USA-grown organic cotton.

This isn't just a feel-good detail. Local manufacturing means we can visit the facility, maintain quality control, and build real relationships with the people making your kids' clothes. It also means a significantly smaller carbon footprint than shipping fabric and garments across the globe.

When we say "Made in LA," we mean cut, sewn, dyed, and finished here. Not just tagged here.

10. What is your shipping policy?

12. Why are Hahaha products priced higher than typical kids' clothes?

Because what's inside them is fundamentally different.

Most kids' clothing is made overseas with conventional cotton that's been treated with chemical dyes, synthetic softeners, and finishes like formaldehyde (yes, the embalming chemical) to resist wrinkles or stains. It's made quickly and cheaply, and the true cost is hidden in what it does to the environment, the workers, and potentially your child's skin.

Hahaha garments are:

  • 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton (the highest global textile standard)
  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100 tested for 350+ harmful substances
  • Made entirely in Los Angeles with USA-grown cotton
  • Designed with interchangeable patches so one garment does the work of many

You're not paying for a logo. You're paying for verified materials, ethical manufacturing, and a product designed to last through multiple kids, not multiple shopping trips.
